One of the best parts of online gaming is the social part - meeting people, chatting about gaming, discussing tactics and generally exchanging a bit of banter.

iFire is an unofficial client of the popular instant messenger gaming client Xfire for Mac OS X. Using iFire, you can log into your existing Xfire account, chat with friends, see which games they are playing, join in their games and much more. You can log in using your existing Xfire account or create a new one at Xfire.com. You can also see the status of your friends online including the game they are playing, the IP-Address of the server they are playing on and various other bits of information such as the server name, the number of players etc.

The chat client is fairly basic but functional featuring limited options such as a gaming server and fast detection of installed OS X games. As soon as you install it and log onto to a server, it automatically detects the name of the game you are playing. There are very few customization options except in the sound department where you can use default Mac OS X system sounds for chatting. In does however, as it to be expected really, support Growl notifications and some Xfire-URLs.

Xfire is a simple but functional client that will appeal to gaming fans of all genres.
